Michael Keller, a software developer from Tampa, joined the National Guard shortly after the 9/11 attacks in 2001. Four years later, his unit was called up to serve at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. This is his story, told via e-mails sent home.
Keller arrived at Abu Ghraib after the infamous scandal, yet he found that detainee mistreatment was still commonplace. His observations during his time in Iraq are among the most honest and humane to emerge from either side of the war debate. Some of his accounts are quite humorous, while others are beyond disturbing. This is a must-read for anyone interested in what has been happening in Iraq, and should be required reading for every member of Congress.
